Assault at Hamilton IGA: Police are hunting for a man who allegedly assaulted a staff member at the Beaumont Street IGA on Sunday, March 22. The worker was attacked after attempting to stop the man from shoplifting. Local business owners say the incident is part of a "notorious" rise in crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, leading some shops to close permanently. Read more.

Newcastle-Singapore Flights Take Off: Jetstar officially launched its new service from Newcastle to Singapore via Bali on Tuesday, March 24. The route offers a "same-plane" connection four times a week, departing at 10:00 am and arriving in Singapore by 6:00 pm. Airport CEO Linc Horton hailed the service as a major milestone, providing the region with easier global access and avoiding the need for travelers to commute to Sydney. Read more.

Attempted Murder Charge in Club Stabbing: A 53-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing musician Greg Bryce (DV8) multiple times outside Club Merewether on Sunday. Bryce, 69, is in serious but stable condition. The attacker was arrested in Stockton and refused bail yesterday. Read more.

John Hunter Hospital Staffing Fears: As the $835 million expansion nears its 2026 completion, local health workers are raising alarms over pay and chronic understaffing. While the project adds massive ICU and theatre capacity, the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association warns that without significant wage increases and better ratios, the new facilities will only increase the "extreme strain" on existing staff.
