Café Review: Three Monkeys Café
Three Monkeys is one of those Newcastle cafés that’s been around long enough to feel familiar, but still busy for a reason. Sitting on Darby Street, it’s a reliable option whether you’re stopping in for a quick coffee or settling in for something more substantial.
We went for coffee and breakfast and sat out on the balcony, which is a great spot for people-watching along Darby Street. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was tasty and filling, and the coffee was solid. The menu does sit a little on the higher side price-wise, but the quality matches it.
There’s plenty of seating across the venue, with options outside in the courtyard, indoors, and upstairs, so it usually works even when things are busy. A consistent choice on Darby Street and still worth a visit.

Event Recap: Newcastle Digest Pilates Session
Our first Newcastle Digest event is officially done. Despite a high tide forcing us off the sand and onto the grass at Dixon Park, we rolled with it and got the session in anyway.
A big thank you to everyone who came along and made the morning what it was. It was a relaxed start to the day, exactly how we’d hoped it would feel.
Huge thanks as well to Bonnie from TOOSH for running the session and being flexible with the last-minute change of setup. Couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick things off.
This was the first of many, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Locals Doing Cool Things
MHS Leo’s Club is running a Back-to-School Support Initiative this January, aimed at helping local students and families who may be doing it tough with back-to-school costs.
The initiative provides free school supply packs to families across the Newcastle area who are experiencing financial or access-related challenges. It’s a simple idea with a real impact, especially at a time of year when expenses can add up quickly.
The program runs until 30 January, and families who need support can register via the form below.
If you know someone who might benefit, it’s worth passing this on.

Newcastle Digest is free to read, independently owned, and locally run (yep, it’s just me), reaching {{active_subscriber_count}} each week. Your support helps keep the Digest going, so we can continue building community and having a little more fun along the way.
Any contribution, big or small, is deeply appreciated.
